Over the past year Annette and I have researched small groups, home church environments, and met with mentors and people we know concerning a perceived need of a ministry available for family, friends or any person wanting a nontraditional setting for studying and understanding the bible, prayer needs, worship opportunity and fellowship. The so called Home Church is a widely adopted and successful model around the world for Christian groups. We are writing you now to share with you this new ministry, Home Church that we believe God has laid upon our hearts.
Acts 2: 42, 46-47 describes the growth of the early church.
And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers. …. , and broke bread from house to house. They ate their food with a joyful and humble attitude, praising God and having favor with all the people.
Understanding that the traditional church setting may not meet all of the needs of every individual, we are seeking to return to the model established by the early church. The healthy church consisted of Biblical teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. We desire to host a weekly meeting in our home to share in these activities with a small group of individuals wishing to gain a deeper understanding of the Bible and its truths. The session will start with worship music, prayer request, silent prayer time, Biblical teaching/discussion, no sermons, (30 to 45 minutes), followed by fellowship and dinner for those who wish to stay. We hope to be able to record Biblical teaching section and have it on our web site for those who may have missed the session or those who want to do their own research on principles discussed. We always encourage people to do their own research as to the meaning of any Bible verse.
Annette and I will fund the cost of our ministry and there will be no tithe collections for the service. Some of our group may still go to a traditional church service and continue to support their church. We are not trying to replace organized church, but to compliment or supplement it.
2 Timothy 3: 17 –All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Our goal is to equip others to better understand God’s Word and to desire to live a more Christ like life with love, faith, peace and joy. Ultimately some people may even want to start their own ministry and we want them to be prepared if that is their desire.
2 Peter 1:20-21 - Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Our goal is to thoroughly understand the technical design and truth of the Bible. The Bible has over 1,000 prophecies. Jesus fulfilled over 100 messianic prophecies in His first coming, statistically that is impossible. How many will He fulfill in his second coming?
Jeremiah 9:23-24 - This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.
What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. “Everybody basically has an empty hole inside of them that they try to fill with money, drugs, alcohol, power – and none of the material stuff works.“
Boris Becker, pro tennis player, “I have won Wimbledon twice before, once as the youngest player. I was rich. I had all of the material possessions I needed . . . It’s the old song of movie stars, and pop stars who commit suicide. They have everything, and yet they are so unhappy. I had no inner peace. I was a puppet on a string. “
Lee Iacocca, industrialist, CEO of Chrysler Corporation: “Most people would think that if you made 19 million in twelve months, you would not have a care in the world. You would be completely satisfied, you would feel rewarded for your efforts, like you’ve arrived. I am empty inside. I do not know what life is all about. Some people claim the church has some answers, but I would not know anything about that.”
Blaise Pascal, philosopher “There is a God-shaped vacuum within us that can never be satisfied by any created thing, but by God alone through Jesus Christ.”
True peace and joy comes from knowing God and his Word. Solomon, one of the wealthiest world leaders, per his writings in Proverbs says no amount of wealth or success can make you happy, but only knowing God. However we all pursue wealth and success more than God’s Word. Our goal is to give you an opportunity to know God’s Word and the wisdom that it contains.
For I do not understand what I am doing, because I do not practice what I want to do, but I do what I hate.
Now if I do what I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but it is the sin that lives in me.
Our goal is to understand we are weak and sin lives in us. We want to support one another knowing that even Apostle Paul struggled with sin. But most importantly, sin does not have to rule for those who accept Christ.
The name of our Ministry is The Home Base Biblical Fellowship or THBBF for short. We have reserved a web domain name thbbf.org and plan to publish our web site shortly. Below are the vision and mission statements:
To prepare disciples through a deeper understanding of God’s Word and Wisdom that they might find and experience love, joy, and peace in life as they pursue God’s calling.
The mission of THBBF is to teach and embrace foundational Biblical truths for a deeper knowledge of God’s Word and His Love by knowing Christ Jesus through Worship, Teaching, Fellowship and Breaking of Bread together. Our Purpose is to bring people together in a small group environment where each person has the opportunity to share, teach, pray, grow spiritually, and ask questions outside of the traditional 20th century church (organized religion). Our purpose is not to replace organized churches, but to offer an alternative and complimentary Bible learning structure.
Our goal is to fulfill the needs of the group more than any other need. Please pray for the individuals that will be part of this group and for Annette and me as we step out in faith to fulfill God’s call on our lives. If this environment sounds like it might meet a need in your life, we encourage you to join us on January 22, 2018 at 6:30 organizational/planning meeting to discuss the goals and directions of this group. At this meeting we will determine the best time of the week to meet, learn the goals of each individual, desired Bible topics to cover initially, dinner menu restrictions, and other general housekeeping issues. We plan to have a time of fellowship and dinner after the short meeting. Please feel free to forward this letter to anyone who might be interested in this type setting to learn the Bible. The meeting will be at our house in Carter Plantation, 24186 Snowy Egret Cv Springfield, LA 70462. Annette and I are willing to hold more than one session week at different locations, date and time, if we needed.
